Office Phone Numbers FAQ

Answers to common office phone number questions — what counts as one, published plans and add-ons, and what an office number here does not include.

Business people taking calls at their desks in an office

An office phone number, as published by 1300 Easy Dial, is a national inbound number — a 1300 number, an 1800 number or a Phoneword — that gives a business one public contact point to publish on signs, quotes and the website. It is not a phone system: there is no PBX, handset or office hardware product here, and this page keeps to what the published record actually answers. The questions below come up most often, and each is answered from that record or marked as not established.

Quick facts

  • Products: 1300 numbers, 1800 numbers and Phonewords (Smart numbers) for Australian businesses.
  • Plans: published 1300 and 1800 plans are $10, $15, $39, $79 and $99 per month, ex GST.
  • Phonewords: a 13, 1300 or 1800 number spelling a word on the keypad, from $40 per month.
  • Add-ons: Call Tracking Numbers $5, IVR Keypress Menu $35 and Postcode Prompter $250 per month.
  • Number search: Find a Number searches available 1300 and 1800 Phonewords.

What counts as an office phone number here?

One number, published nationally. A 1300 number is a shared-cost business number — callers pay a local rate and the business pays the per-minute rate. An 1800 number is free for callers in the stated Australian 1800-number context, with the business paying the call charges. A Phoneword carries a word on the keypad instead of ten arbitrary digits. What the office does with the call — who answers and on what device — comes down to the answering point nominated at signup, because the signup flow asks for the number the service will connect to. How routing behaves beyond that is not established on this page.

How much does an office number cost?

Standard 1300 and 1800 plans start at $10 per month, and the full plan table — fees, inclusions and call rates — lives on the pricing page. Standard plans are month-to-month with no lock-in. A Phoneword starts from $40 per month on top of the plan, with availability and desirability affecting the price of a specific word; the exact figure is confirmed with you before anything is connected. All pricing is ex GST.

Which office features are actually published?

Three add-ons are published, at their stated purposes. Call Tracking Numbers ($5 per month) show which ads and campaigns drive calls. The IVR Keypress Menu ($35 per month) is an auto-attendant menu that routes callers by keypress. The Postcode Prompter ($250 per month) routes callers by the postcode they dial in from. Add-ons can be selected during sign-up or changed later from the online console. Beyond these, features such as call recording, voicemail-to-email, caller-ID capture or SMS notifications are not established in the record this page works from, so they are not listed as inclusions here.

What this FAQ does not answer

Stated plainly: nothing here establishes office hardware, handset supply, PBX replacement or software integrations — the product is the number, not the phone system. No activation timeframe is published, so none is quoted. And bringing an existing number across is not covered by a published process, so that question is best directed to the team on 1300 327 934.

For the broader category, the Office Phone Numbers pillar covers the options. Related reading: multiple phone numbers for business and multiple phone numbers.

Office phone number questions

Is an office phone number the same as a phone system?

No. What is sold here is the inbound number — 1300, 1800 or Phoneword — connected to the answering point you nominate at signup. A PBX, handsets or office telephony hardware are not part of the published product, and this page does not establish them.

What does an office number cost per month?

Published 1300 and 1800 plans start at $10 per month, rising through $15, $39, $79 and $99 tiers. Phonewords start from $40 per month for the word, with availability and desirability affecting the price. All pricing is ex GST, and the current fees, inclusions and call rates are on the pricing page.

Can I keep my existing office number?

That is not answered by anything published here. No porting process, eligibility criteria or timeframe appears in the record this page works from, so the honest route is to ask the team directly on 1300 327 934 or via the contact page.

How do I pick the number itself?

Search available 1300 and 1800 Phonewords on Find a Number. The search shows what appears to be available; it does not guarantee a specific word or a specific price — the exact number and price are confirmed with you before connection.

Where do calls actually ring?

The signup flow asks for the number the service will connect to — the answering point. That is the extent of what is published here. Guarantees about routing behaviour across devices or locations are not established on this page.
