Phone Number To Letters
How telephone keypad letters map to digits, how a Phoneword spells a word on a 13, 1300 or 1800 number, and how to search available words in Australia.
Phone numbers map to letters through the keypad: each digit from 2 to 9 carries a set of letters, so digits can be read as letters and a word can be read as digits. A number chosen to spell a word is a Phoneword, and a Phoneword can use a 13, 1300 or 1800 number.

Turning a word into digits
Take each letter of the word and note the digit it sits on. For example, PLUMBER maps letter by letter to 7-5-8-6-2-3-7. This example illustrates the mechanics only — it does not mean any particular number containing those digits exists or is available.
Turning a phone number into letters
The same mapping works in reverse: read the digits of a number and list the letters each digit carries. Because most digits hold three or four letters, one number can be read as several words — which is how a business name can be matched to a 13, 1300 or 1800 number, and how a number you already like can be checked for what it might spell.
Reading a number you already have
If you already hold a 13, 1300 or 1800 number, the same letter list tells you what it can spell. Run the digits against the mapping and write out the letter options — because digits 7 and 9 each carry four letters, one number can often be read as more than one word. Two different businesses can even advertise numbers that read the same way in letters, so a word alone does not identify a unique number.
Checking whether your word is available
The mapping is universal; availability is not. Find a Number searches available 1300/1800 Phonewords so you can test ideas before committing. Published Phoneword pricing starts from $40 per month, with availability and desirability affecting the price; premium contract and setup terms are on the pricing page.
To go deeper, phone words for letters looks at choosing letters for your number, and phone numbers that spell words covers the wider word-number idea.
