Get Business Number Options
Compare the published business number options: 1300 shared-cost numbers, 1800 toll-free numbers and Phonewords, with plans from $10 per month ex GST.
Three business number options are published: a 1300 number, an 1800 number and a Phoneword. The 1300 is a shared-cost number, the 1800 is free for your customers to call, and a Phoneword spells a word on the telephone keypad. Plans for the 1300 and 1800 options run from $10 to $99 per month, ex GST; Phonewords start from $40 per month.
Each option, and the plans behind it, is set out below.
Option 1: a 1300 number
A 1300 number is presented as a shared-cost business number — callers pay a local call rate and the business pays the per-minute rate. It suits a business that wants one published contact point without covering the whole call cost. See 1300 numbers.
Option 2: an 1800 number
An 1800 number is free for customers to call in the stated Australian 1800-number context, while the business pays the call charges. It removes the caller-cost consideration entirely, which is why it is a common choice for service and support lines. See 1800 numbers.
Option 3: a Phoneword
A Phoneword uses a 13, 1300 or 1800 number to spell a word on a telephone keypad — the number itself carries the brand. Phoneword pricing starts from $40 per month, with availability and desirability affecting the price; the exact number and price are confirmed before you connect. See Phonewords and search available words with Find a Number.
The published plans behind the options
1300 and 1800 plans are published at $10, $15, $39, $79 and $99 per month. The $39 tier has three variants — Cap39, Fixed Cap39 and Mobile Cap39 — reflecting whether your calls come mostly from fixed lines, mobiles or a mix. Published inclusions include 250 Fixed Line plus 100 Mobile minutes on Cap39, 750 plus 300 on Cap79, $99 call credit on High Volume and $5 call credit on Prepaid and Light. All pricing is ex GST.
Standard 1300 and 1800 plans are month-to-month with no lock-in. Phonewords are premium numbers and their terms differ — the pricing page sets out the contract and setup detail.
How to choose between the options
- Caller cost matters: compare the shared-cost 1300 with the toll-free 1800 on the pricing page rate tables.
- The number is the brand: shortlist words and check what is available on Find a Number.
- Call volume is unknown: the $10 and $15 plans carry $5 call credit, and the Cap plans carry larger included minutes — match the plan to expected volume rather than paying for headroom you will not use.
Business number option questions
Which is cheaper, 1300 or 1800?
Both options publish the same plan fees, from $10 per month ex GST. The difference is who pays the call: callers pay a local call rate on a 1300, and nothing on an 1800, while the business pays the per-minute rate either way. Current rates are on the pricing page.
Can a Phoneword sit on a 13, 1300 or 1800 number?
Yes — a Phoneword can use any of the three to spell a word on the keypad. Pricing starts from $40 per month with availability and desirability affecting the price.
Are the plans locked in?
Standard 1300 and 1800 plans are month-to-month with no lock-in. Phonewords carry different terms as premium numbers; the pricing page has the detail.
