Activate Phone Number

Activating a business phone number means choosing a 1300, 1800 or Phoneword, selecting a plan and connecting it to your phone. Here is what is involved.

Plumber conducting business on mobile

Activating a phone number for your business means getting a chosen 1300, 1800 or Phoneword connected so that calls to it answer on the phone you nominate. With 1300 Easy Dial that comes down to three things: the number you want, the plan it sits on, and the number the service will connect to. One caution up front — no activation timeframe is published on this page, because none is established here.

What activation involves

  • Pick the number: a shared-cost 1300 number, an 1800 number that is free for Australian callers, or a Phoneword that spells a word on the keypad.
  • Confirm availability: use Find a Number to search available 1300/1800 Phonewords. Availability is not promised for a specific number, so confirm your choice during sign-up.
  • Choose a plan: published 1300 and 1800 plans start at $10 per month; Phoneword pricing starts from $40 per month, with the word's availability and desirability affecting the price.
  • Nominate the answering phone: the sign-up flow asks for the number the service will connect to — that is the phone that rings when customers dial your new number.

Choosing the number before you activate

The number is the part you will publish everywhere, so it is worth settling first. If a word matters to your brand, search it directly in the Find a Number tool; if digits matter more, you can search by the last six digits instead. Shortlist a couple of options, because availability changes and the search does not reserve a number.

Choosing the plan

The pricing page lists the published monthly fees, included value and call rates for each 1300 and 1800 tier, plus the terms that apply to premium Phoneword numbers. Standard plans are month-to-month with no lock-in. Compare the monthly fee and the per-minute rates together, because both appear on your bill. All pricing is ex GST.

Connecting the number

During sign-up you give the number the service will connect to, and calls to your new number are answered on that existing phone. Once the plan and connection details are confirmed, the service is in place and you can publish the number.

What this page does not establish: an activation timeframe. There is no published guarantee here for how long connection takes, and this page does not establish porting outcomes for numbers held elsewhere. If timing matters for a launch or campaign, confirm the current position with the team on 1300 327 934 or through contact us.

Activation questions

How long does activation take?

No activation timeframe is published on this page or elsewhere on the site. If timing is critical, ask the team on 1300 327 934 for the current position before you plan around a date.

Do I need a new phone line to activate a number?

The sign-up flow asks for the number the service will connect to, and calls answer on that existing phone. Anything beyond that is a setup question for the team.

Which numbers can I activate?

1300 numbers, 1800 numbers and Phonewords built on the 13, 1300 or 1800 ranges. Search what is currently available on the Find a Number page.

How much does it cost to activate?

Published 1300 and 1800 plans start at $10 per month and Phonewords start from $40 per month, with availability and desirability affecting the word's price. See the pricing page for the current tables.

Can I move a number I already own?

Porting is not established on this page. For a number you hold with another provider, ask the team directly about the current process before relying on any outcome.
